Lake Nakuru National Park is a 177 square kilometre national park located about 160 km
northwest of Nairobi. The park lies within the floor of the Great Rift Valley and surrounds thefamous Lake Nakuru, one of the region’s alkaline soda lakes.

The park is enclosed by an electric fence to reduce human–wildlife conflict and to safeguard itsimportant rhino population. Located just a few minutes from Nakuru town, the park is a popular destination for day trips, especially for visitors traveling from Nairobi and Nakuru.

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to over 50 species of mammals and more than 400 birdspecies. Originally established in 1966 as a bird sanctuary, the park was created to protect flamingos and other unique birdlife found around the lake. Today, it is also well known as a successful sanctuary for both black and white rhinos, which can often be spotted near the game drive routes.Because the park is relatively small and well protected, wildlife viewing is easy and rewarding.

During a game drive, visitors may encounter animals such as rhinos, lions, leopards, hippos,gazelles, hyenas, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, cheetahs, baboons, elands, impalas, waterbucks,and many others.

ITINERARY

6:00 am– Departure from NairobiYou will be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi and begin your journey toward Lake Nakuru National Park.

7:30 am – Great Rift Valley Viewpoint StopAlong the way, you will stop at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Great Rift Valley. From this vantage point, you can admire breathtaking views of Mount Longonot, Mount Suswa, the expansive Rift Valley floor, Lake Naivasha, and the geothermal features of Hell’s Gate National Park.

9:00 am – Arrival and Morning Game Drive.Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park and begin your game drive around Lake Nakuru. The lakeattracts a wide variety of birdlife including pelicans, flamingos, ibis, jacanas, plovers, storks, and herons. You will also visit Baboon Cliff for a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding landscapes. Continue exploring the park while spotting wildlife along the way.

1:00 pm – Picnic Lunch.Enjoy a picnic lunch at the scenic Makalia Falls campsite. This peaceful area near the waterfall provides a relaxing environment where you may also see wildlife nearby.

2:00 pm – Afternoon Game Drive. Continue your safari with another game drive through the park’s savannah grasslands, acacia woodlands, and wetlands surrounding the lake. These habitats support a wide range of animalsand birds.

3:00 pm – Departure from the Park After the afternoon game drive, exit the park and begin your return journey to Nairobi.

6:00 pm – Arrival in Nairobi,Arrive back in Nairobi and you will be dropped off at your hotel or at Jomo KenyattaInternational Airport.
